I’m failing to see the “upgrade” here, especially for that first image, ouch. For some reason the updated images (used for both the PS2 and PSP ports) switched over to Sadamoto’s manga Shinji design even though this is based on the anime’s episode 26 AU and uses the anime’s characterization (or parody’s thereof).
Yes, this is an official image from the game too.
